Otakon 2013 Madness: Bandai License Rescues and More!

Otakon 2013 has come and gone, but not without making a big splash in the current North American anime industry. There's one particularly large piece of news that affects two major U.S. licensors, plus plenty of smaller news of note.

So without further ado, let's jump in with the big one and get on with this show!SUNRISE LICENSES OUT FORMER BANDAI ENTERTAINMENT TITLES TO FUNIMATION & SENTAI FILMWORKS

The second promotional video for the upcoming 1st Persona 3 anime film, "PERSONA 3 THE MOVIE #1 SPRING OF BIRTH", had been released. The film is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters on November 23rd

Persona 3 follows the story of a male high-school student who joins the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES), a group of students investigating the Dark Hour, a time period between one day and the next that few people are aware of.

The Power of the Prologue

One of the titles I have been watching here and there is Soul Eater released by Funimation. Check out the trailer below if your looking for a fun title to watch.

Anyways, I'm not here today to write up a review on the series, that will come much later. What I wanted to talk about today, was the use prologues as the first 3 episodes of the series. In Soul Eater, there are characters that are reapers and characters that act as weapons for the reapers. In the first episode we look at reaper Maka and her death scythe Soul. We get a chance to see the interaction between the 2 characters and also learn a bit about the universe the story is set in. Soul has to eat 99 souls and the 100th soul he eats needs to be a witch for him to become a death scythe.

Power of the Prologue 2: RWBY

Last week I posted about prologues and ways that they can be used to help enhance stories. I was referring to the first three episodes of Soul Eater and also Crest of the Stars. However, I completely blanked out on something I saw a while back, a trailer to the Black character in Roosterteeth's RWBY project. Here are all of the characters prologues, in the order they were released.

I first heard of Roosterteeth when I was in college and a friend showed me the world of Red vs Blue. If your not familiar with that, thats a whole other rabbit hole you will have to look into, but you can start here.

Suisei no Gargantia Review

Suisei no Gargantia is a science fiction series not about space aliens or a technological regressed Earth, but rather about rediscovery. It's about rediscovering humanity, self, and life and one of many things that make it such a palatable title in spite of its many shortcomings.

Louisa commented on 'Luncheon of the Stars'

Susan - OK - finally - here was the menu:

a bite-sized Salade Nicoise - a cube of seared tuna studded with tiny rolled anchovies, slivers of olives and tomato, and feathery wings of sucrine/mini French Romaine lettuce

a crispy golden tube of brik filled with a rich mixture of langoustine cream and a brunoise of raw langoustine, garnished with oscetra caviar at both ends and topped with a tiny leaf of sucrine filled with a heaping spoonful of caviar

bite-sized bars of foie gras glazed with a cherry gelee on toasted country bread spread with black cherry preserves

lobster "casse-croute" - chunks of Brittany blue lobster in bacon-parmesan cream layered with melted parmesan cheese and spinach agar-agar in a crisp crust of paper-thin, buttery pain de mie

veal sweetbreads fried crisp served with precise roll of the chef's version spaghetti carbonara

fraises des bois vacherin topped with a cylindrical cage of meringue garnished with fluttering gold leaf
